Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb Sieged the Fort of Golconda



On this day, 21 September 1687 CE, The Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb led his troops to besiege the Qutb Shahi dynasty at Golconda Fort, which housed the Kollur Mine, in January 1687. This event became known as the Siege of Golconda.
Abul Hasan Qutb Shah was the recognized ruler of Golconda and Nizamshahis of Ahmednagar while the Adilshahis of Bijapur were two Muslim kingdoms that Aurangzeb and the Mughal army had successfully conquered.
The arrival of the Mughal army at Golconda Fort was inevitable. The enormous Mughal army was repeatedly stretched thin throughout the 8-month Golconda siege; in reality, the fort there was arguably the most formidable in all of the Indian subcontinent. A resounding victory enabled Aurangzeb and the Mughals to enter Golconda.
The Mughal army's triumph significantly increased the Mughal dominion in southern India, making Sultan Aurangzeb arguably the most powerful and powerful emperor living.
