Ottoman Sultan Abdul Hamid II

On this day, 21 September 1842 CE, the 34th Ottoman sultan Abdul Hamid II was born in Constantinople (now Istanbul, Turkey), he ruled the empire from 1876 to 1909, whose autocratic rule climaxed the Tanzimat (Reorganization) reform movement. He adopted a pan-Islamist policy in opposition to Western intervention in Ottoman affairs.

His political and social administrations preserved an about-to-collapse empire which he ruled for about 33 years. Abdulhamid was kind and religious man with his generosity. During the Greece Campaign, he learned there wasn't enough money. His own riches went to the campaign. He was a talented woodworker and sold his furniture to help the impoverished.

Abdul Hamid was a compassionate man who forgave many people. He founded universities, an art academy, and finance and agriculture schools and also he opened primary, high, blind, and handicapped schools. He established Sisli Etfal Hospital and Poorhouse. He brought Istanbul Hamidiye water. He built highways and railways through Baghdad and Medina. He spread capital city rider trolleys.
